Inspire your students with a school writing workshop
“I use fiction to help young people understand and connect more deeply with the world around them.”
Are you a teacher or school leader looking to ignite a passion for writing among your students?
As a Melbourne copywriter, author, and registered teacher, I run writing workshops for Melbourne primary and secondary school students of all ages.
I specialise in building confidence and know-how through fun, practical activities, and reflections on my writing journey. My workshops help students explore the creative writing process — from conjuring ideas and inspiration to exploring writing processes and getting words on the page.
Teacher Testimonials
I’ve been lucky enough to work with students in classrooms across Melbourne. Here’s what some of the teachers I’ve worked with have to say.
“It was clear our Year 9s already loved A Way Home, but the excitement and engagement they gained over a session with Emily Brewin was a testament to the importance of this novel. Emily expertly invites students into the world of her novel and the world of a writer. Our students loved creating characters through her workshop activities and the opportunity to ask questions to further their understanding of the novel.”
— Erin Laffan from Ashwood High School
“Emily Brewin came to our school and presented a writer's incursion to our Year 9 level. Her passion, storytelling, and activities with the students were fantastic and loved by our students and staff. Thank you, Emily, for inspiring our students and helping them strive for excellence and follow their dreams.”
— Linda Molinaro from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College

My Young Adult novel, A Way Home, won the The Gab Williams Prize 2024, which was judged by YA readers, and was shortlisted for The Readings Young Adult Prize 2024. A Way Home was named a CBCA 2025 Book of the Year Award – Notable and was longlisted for the ASLA’s DANZ Children’s Book Award 2025.
My first novel, Hello, Goodbye, was published in 2017, and my second, Small Blessings in 2019. A Way Home (2024) is my first young adult novel.
